Students who are preparing to become elementary teachers in the five-year dual-degree program at WVU, which specializes in teaching kindergarten through sixth grade, complete the Multi-Disciplinary Studies Undergraduate Program in Elementary Education. This program has a strong General Education Component.

In addition, Elementary Education students will need to complete at least one of the following specializations:

  • Early Childhood (pre-kindergarten and kindergarten)
  • English/Language Arts (grades 5-9)
  • French (grades 5-9)
  • General Science (grades 5-9)
  • Math (grades 5-9)
  • Multicategorical Special Education (grades K-6 and 5-Adult)
  • Social Studies (grades 5-9)
  • Spanish (grades 5-9)

Students will also participate in over 1000 hours of clinical experiences in public schools that are partners with West Virginia University. We call these special schools Professional Development Schools or PDSs.
