General Education Curriculum

Beginning of the fall semester of 2005, All students who are preparing to become teachers are required to complete the requirements of the General Education Curriculum (GEC). This curriculum provides students with a foundation of skills and knowledge necessary to reason clearly, communicate effectively, and contribute to society.


There are nine General Education Curriculum areas. Students take courses in each of these areas.

1. Communication

2. Basic Mathematical Skills and Scientific Inquiry

3. The Past and Its Traditions

4. Issues of Contemporary Society

5. Artistic Expression

6. The Individual in Society

7. American Culture

8. Western Culture

9. Non-western Culture
