Composition

The Executive Committee is a constitutional committee composed of the Faculty Chair, the immediate past Faculty Chair, and eight other elected faculty members, who shall be chosen by the faculty. These eight members shall be elected for terms of two years, and no member may serve more than two consecutive terms. The Dean of the College shall be a non-voting ex-officio member of the Faculty Executive Committee.

Functions and Responsibilities of the Executive Committee

The Executive Committee shall determine and express the faculty’s position with regard to such issues and responsibilities as, but not limited to, the following:

 

a. The mission, goals, and objectives of the College and all academic programs of the College.

b. Educational matters, especially with regard to those affecting more than one department or academic unit.

c. The organizational structure of the College.

d. Policies about rights of faculty members, relating to retirement, salary, academic freedom, conduct, and all matters of faculty welfare.

e. Serving as a mechanism through which any member of the faculty may introduce matters for possible consideration by the Faculty Assembly.

f. Acting on behalf of the faculty on an emergency basis between meetings of the Faculty Assembly with such action reported at the next meeting of the Faculty Assembly.

g. Conducting elections in the College.

h. The creation of standing and special committees of the faculty and the maintenance of liaison with these committees to insure the expeditious fulfillment of charges to these committees.

i. Preparation and submission of reports on the work of the Executive Committee to the Dean and to the faculty.

j. The development of the agenda for faculty meetings including a time for the Dean, or for her/his designated representative, to stand for questions and to provide additional information or comments to the faculty.

k. Reviewing and acting on all matters submitted to it from standing and ad hoc committees.

l. Providing counsel to the Dean and responding to issues presented by the Dean for discussion and feedback.

m. Interpretation of this constitution.
