Needs of the College
The College of Human Resources & Education funding priorities are
listed below. Please contact the Development Office at (304) 293-3261
for further details or questions.
Student Enrichment
Providing funds for our students is a high priority. Assistance is needed
in three main areas:
(1) Undergraduate and graduate student scholarships. A scholarship can be established with an annual donation of $1,000 or more or with a single contribution of at least $25,000;
(2) Travel and research. Support for student research and for travel to conferences enhances students’ professional development. Travel reimbursement funds, especially during the internship semester when travel costs escalate, are needed for students in the Benedum Collaborative, Speech Pathology & Audiology programs, and the Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Counseling Psychology programs;
(3) Dissertation Fellowships. Dissertation fellowships would permit the College to recruit outstanding doctoral candidates and enable them to focus on their dissertation research.
Faculty Enhancement
The College is seeking endowed and non-endowed gifts to entice and attract
outstanding faculty. Funding for the following four areas is of great
importance:
(1) The establishment of fixed-term professorships for associate professors to provide additional support for their research agendas;
(2) A visiting scholar program that focuses on international exchange of faculty and invites distinguished scholars to campus for extended work with students and faculty in contemporary areas of research;
3) Support for faculty travel, research, and development activities in instruction that enhance the mission and goals of the College and individual programs.
Allen Hall Naming Opportunities
Efforts to improve the facilities in Allen Hall have recently been
completed. However, as with many older buildings, there is a strong
need for continued funding to support twenty-first century instructional
needs. Naming opportunities are available as we upgrade classrooms,
purchase new equipment and software, and enhance conference and seminar
rooms. In addition, the College supports a Reading Clinic, Speech Clinic,
Hearing Clinic, and Nursery School which serve the community. The construction
of the new Nursery School will present several additional naming opportunities.
Program Support
The College offers programs of study that may lead to degrees in 19 different academic areas. Gifts for discretionary funds in the departments will permit responses to new opportunities and support existing initiatives at the departmental level. Examples of opportunities are assistance for student projects, summer support for faculty research and development, and the purchase of instructional materials and software to enhance instruction, especially with distance learning.
