Director of Development
Position: Director of Development
Reports to: Dean of the College of Human Resources & Education, with close coordination with the WVU Foundation
Requirements: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ experience in development. Preference will be given to candidates with greater experience in development; experience with professional education or human resources teaching programs in higher education; experience at a comprehensive university.
Basic
Responsibilities: To lead and manage all aspects of a development program for the College of Human Resources & Education, using the College’s faculty, staff, alumni, and other volunteers and donors as appropriate, and leveraging the resources and staff of the WVU Foundation to maximize the development program’s return.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Manage all aspects of development program for the College of Human Resources & Education, including focus on a comprehensive major gifts program to generate current gift revenue from individuals, corporations, and foundations, and deferred gift revenue from individuals.
2. Create and implement a comprehensive development plan, outlining goals, objectives, and activities assuring aggressive completion of the plan’s goals and timeline.
3. Working with the College of Human Resources & Education’s faculty, staff, and volunteers, and the appropriate personnel of the WVU Foundation, identify priorities for private support consistent with specific resource requirements of the College, establish and maintain operational goals, and define budgetary requirements for each development program activity.
4. Working with the College of Human Resources & Education’s faculty, staff, and volunteers, and the appropriate personnel of the WVU Foundation, develop a program to identify potential donors, determining possible levels of support, and matching prospect interests with the priority needs of the College.
5. In close coordination with the WVU Foundation, develop and execute a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship plan.
6. In close coordination with the WVU Foundation, develop and execute a plan to generate annual gift revenue for the College through direct mail, the Foundation’s Mountaineer Line, Mountaineer Mark, and Campus Campaign programs, and other opportunities as may develop.
7. Coordinate all development efforts with the WVU Foundation and comply with all WVU Foundation reporting and accountability standards.
8. Develop and execute various special events to generate new prospects, or to generate revenue in support of defined prospects, coordinating with all appropriate offices across campus, and at the WVU Foundation.
Specific Duties:
1. Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the College of Human Resources & Education, including its mission and history, and current priorities assuring effective representation of all aspects of the College and its opportunities and priorities for private support.
2. Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, as defined by working with the WVU Foundation, from initial identification through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
3. Plan, schedule, and complete frequent travel, some overnight, to make contact with prospects and donors in completion of portfolio management. The majority of travel is in West Virginia and surrounding region, with occasional national travel.
4. Plan, organize, and implement development strategies for all special or capital projects, as appropriate.
5. Initiate and facilitate collegial relationships and open communications with other Foundation and University development staff, and other University and College of Human Resources and Education constituents in advancing the mission of the College.
6. Complete other duties as may be assigned from time-to-time by the College’s dean or designates in advancement of the College’s development missions.

The College of Human Resources & Education
The College of Human Resources & Education was originally established as a College of Education in 1927. In 1965, the College expanded to include programs that prepare related professionals in non-school positions.
