Rehabilitation Counseling
E Campus Program
WVU has embraced distance education as an opportunity to forward its academic mission. We recognize the power and flexibility of this modality in providing a vehicle for educating (a) the person whose work and family schedule is already full; and (b) those in more remote locations who do not have the luxury of moving to attend graduate school. We have available to us a unique combination of technological resources and faculty talent, which can implement a high quality program of study offered through distance education. To this end, we have created a Rehabilitation Counselor Education E-Campus Program.
Coursework is delivered through the VISTA WebCT platform. Students are required to attend a one day orientation session during the first week of class. The session focuses on how to use VISTA, services available through the library at WVU, and obtaining textbooks through the WVU bookstore.
At least two required courses are offered each semester. If one follows the schedule, you can graduate in two years (pending appropriate progress). Some of the courses (two per semester) are condensed and delivered in an eight week format. They are scheduled sequentially. A third is delivered across the entire 16 weeks of the semester.
Students must also be prepared to attend on site sessions in Morgantown. We have a one week intensive session during the first summer that addresses skill building requirements of Counseling Theories and Techniques I & II. Your second summer includes a one week session covering coursework in the Group Counseling Theories and Techniques as well as the practicum experience. Attendance at these two week sessions is not negotiable. You cannot transfer coursework that eliminates attendance at both sessions, only one.
Each semester we offer an elective course. These were added to assist people in meeting the elective requirement of the program but also to (1) either reach 60 hours of graduate study required by some state licensure boards and/or (2) participate in coursework that will allow students to pursue certification as a vocational evaluator as well as the certified rehabilitation counselor credential. Students should work with their advisors to pick appopriate electives in their plan of study. Large print version of plan.
