Rehabilitation Counseling Students Sell Pies for Trip to Relieve
NYC Workers
Seven students in the College's Rehabilitation Counseling Program will travel to New York City when the semester is over where they will work with the Salvation Army to help September 11th victim's families file insurance claims and enable relief workers to spend some time with their own families during the holidays. "The Salvation Army was thrilled that we are preparing to become rehab counselors," said Rebecca Berger, treasurer of the local chapter of The National Rehabilitation Association. "We've been wanting to help in some way, and this is a great opportunity." But, in order to make this trip, the students had to raise more than $2500 to cover their expenses. Baking and selling homemade pumpkin pies just prior to the Thanksgiving holidays was their first fundraising effort. Additional funds have been secured through donations and grants in recognition of their service. To assist these students or for more information, contact the Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Counseling Psychology at 304-293-3807 or email Rebecca Berger (becauza@excite.com).Previous What's Happening articles |
