Legacy Series Interviews Five-Year Teacher Education PersonnelAre West Virginia's schools "Making the Grade" was the question posed by West Virginia Public Broadcasting's Legacy series in November. Current students in the College of Human Resources and Education who are preparing to become teachers in those schools as well as other WVU students, area high school students, faculty members, and professional development school faculty came ready to give their answers to WVU's NRCCE studio, one of four statewide broadcast sites. The need for additional funds, for more demanding classes, for more parent involvement, and for students to avail themselves of existing academic challenges were among the concerns that participants raised during the forum. Some students, however, expressed appreciation for attending schools where a wide range of classes are offered and teachers provide encouragement and push students to reach their goals. Listening to this feedback during the two-hour special were educational policy-makers at the state level as well as a statewide television audience. Dr. Van Dempsey, director of the Benedum Collaborative, organized the College's participation in the event.Previous What's Happening Articles | |||
