The
foundation of the Benedum Collaborative as a school-university partnership
is the "simultaneous renewal" of educators in P-12 and
higher education. This process operates on the assumption that public
schools and higher education can join together to create a mutually
satisfying agenda that supports the work of educators in ways that
neither can accomplish alone. Colleagues in the twenty-eight P-12
schools and at West Virginia University work together in professional
development and the education of a new generation of educators and
service providers for schools and higher education. The Benedum
Collaborative staff provide support and energy to help bring these
two educator worlds together. The staff provide logistical, administrative
and budgetary support to the leaders and participants in each one
of the "critical friends" groups of professionals, and
they serve as a key communication vehicle to link the elements of
simultaneous renewal.
