Below is a list of several agencies, organizations and institutions with whom the Benedum Collaborative works closely or whose work parallels that of the Collaborative. This group includes state and federal agencies, professional organizations, and policy-related groups.

Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation
The Benedum Foundation provided the original planning grant to the Benedum Project and subsequently funded the implementation of the Benedum Collaborative from 1990 to 2002. The Foundation continues to be an important partner in the school renewal work of the Collaborative.

 

Education Commission of the States
The Education Commission of the States (ECS) is an organization committed to the support of education policy makers at the state level across the United States. ECS is an important resource on issues of teacher quality, school renewal, and teacher education and professional development.

 

Holmes Partnership
West Virginia University was an original member of the Holmes Group, a national network of universities committed to the development of school university partnerships to support the simultaneous renewal of teaching, teacher education, and schools. Now known as the Holmes Partnership, the organization provides networking support and is a vehicle for the dissemination of knowledge on partnerships.

 

National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
West Virginia University is fully committed to the purpose, goals and standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Five-Year Teacher Education program is NCATE accredited, and the Benedum Collaborative uses NCATE standards for Professional Development Schools (PDS) as a guiding framework for partnership work.

 
 

National Network for Educational Renewval
The Benedum Collaborative is a member of the National Network for Educational Renewal (NNER), a network of partnerships around the country committed to simultaneous renewal. The NNER is committed to the democratic agenda of schooling America and supporting that vision through the collaborative efforts of arts and sciences, education, and P-12 educators.

 
State of West Virginia Governor's Minority Students Strategy Council
As a PDS-based partnership, the Benedum Collaborative strongly supports the work of the Governor’s Council to close the achievement gap for minority children and children from economically disadvantaged situations. The Council has targeted the professional development school concept as a vehicle for closing the achievement gap.
 
Southeast Center for Teaching Quality
The Southeast Center for Teaching Quality provides a valuable resource to understanding teacher quality issues in the southeastern states. It provides regular research reports related to policy and practices that are germane to the work of the Collaborative.
 
West Virginia Department of Education
The West Virginia Department of Education is a critical agency for the Benedum Collaborative in its pursuit of high quality teacher education, teacher professional development and school renewal. The Collaborative places a high degree of importance on committing to the goals of the Department for West Virginia’s public schools and for the education profession in general.
West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts
The Department of Education and the Arts is one of the most important supporters and allies of the Benedum Collaborative in the efforts to support and strengthen education in West Virginia. This vital partner links the work of the Collaborative to the Office of the Governor and the West Virginia Legislature as the Collaborative works to be a resource to education in the state.
 
West Virginia Partnerships for Teacher Quality
The Benedum Collaborative is a member of a statewide network of partnerships between P-12 schools and higher education that focus on simultaneous renewal. This network also includes a group of important critical friends in the policymaking arena who support and help to sustain the work of the partnerships.
WVU College of Human Resources and Education
The College of Human Resources and Education serves as the logistical and administrative center of the Benedum Collaborative. Faculty from each of its four departments work with the partnership activities. Faculty work as liaisons to the PDS network and teach in the Five-Year Program.
 
West Virginia University (WVU)
WVU is the higher education home of the Benedum Collaborative. As an “early adopter” of the partnership concept, the University is now one of the nation’s recognized leaders in professional development schools, teacher education, and building linkages with P-12 schools.
