Policy
briefs are documents that outline the rationale for choosing a particular
course of action in a current policy debate. A brief may provide
a targeted discussion of alternatives without favoring a particular
one or may be focused directly on providing argument for the adoption
of particular alternative. The purpose of a policy brief is to convince
the target audience of the urgency of the current problem and the
need to adopt a preferred alternative or course of action and therefore,
serve as an impetus for action.
In
an effort to be participants in the policy arena in West Virginia,
Benedum Collaborative members have periodically authored and submitted
