What does it mean to be National Board Certified?

"National Board Certification is more than just adding a set of initials after your name. It is the highest symbol of professional teaching excellence. The rewards are many and becoming a National Board Certified Teacher attests to the fact that you have been judged by your peers as one who is accomplished in your field."

                                                                                              ~ nbpts.org

National Board Certified Teachers have demonstrated that they meet these five core propositions:

Proposition 1: Teachers are Committed to Students and Learning

Proposition 2: Teachers Know the Subjects They Teach and How to Teach Those Subjects to Students

Proposition 3: Teachers are Responsible for Managing and Monitoring Student Learning

Proposition 4: Teachers Think Systematically about Their Practice and Learn from Experience

Proposition 5: Teachers are Members of Learning Communities

"It is the most rewarding professional development experience that I have had in my teaching career."                                        ~ Jeanne Taylor, NBCT
