The Benedum Collaborative
Five-year teacher education program
Admission & Matriculation

Admission
Students entering the Benedum Collaborative Model of Teacher Education are expected to exceed the academic expectations of a typical undergraduate student enrolled in WV because the program of study is rigorous and demanding. In addition to meeting academic criteria, any student who seeks admission to the program is expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment to becoming a professional educator.

Matriculation
There are 3 milestones in the 5 Year Teacher Education Program at which time student progress is assessed against a set of standards:

  • Milestone One - application for acceptance into the program is submitted at the successful completion of semester 4 in their college career. This point of student progression in the program is competivitve, as only a limited number of students are accepted.
  • Milestone Two - application for acceptance into the graduate year (year 5) is submitted at the successful completion of semester 8.
  • Milestone Three - application for graduation is submitted during semester 10.

Graduation
Upon graduation, students post to a university web site an electronic version of their exit portfolio which is organized around program standards. Students have shared their electronic portfolios with potential employers and used them as resources in their teaching. To see samples of electronic portfolios, see the links below.
