Five-year teacher education program
Action Research

The Action Research course in the 5-year Teacher Education Program spans Years 3, 4, and 5 of the program and includes a series of seminars and tutorials, interactions with faculty across the College of Human Resources and Education and the 31 professional development schools, and the design and implementation of an action research project during the Professional Internship in the fall semester of the 5th year.

The Action Research experience prepares prospective teachers to conduct action research by providing them with the skills and knowledge to accomplish classroom-based research. The projects preservice teachers implement are intended to demonstrate their understandings of content, pedagogy, and learning theories. The Action Research process enhances a critical theme of the 5-year Teacher Education Program - teacher as reflective practitioner. As interns report the results of their projects, they explain how their particular studies have either changed their teaching or verified their teaching. Interns report their results in professional posters, written reports, and oral presentations at their PDSs and at the Action Research Conference held annually in the College of Human Resources and Education.
